Connor with iPhone

While sitting at Luci’s the other day, I noticed a really cute child next to me, staring thoughtfully out the window. The light was amazing, and his reflection was so perfect, but I had no camera. There was no option other than to ask his mother to borrow her iPhone, which she gladly offered.

Slowly, to avoid distracting him, I moved in for the first shot.

Then, inching closer, I took a few more, to see how close I could get. This one’s better, but the reflection’s not visible.

By rotating the iPhone so that the camera lens is as close as possible to the window, I can see the reflection I’m looking for.

Connor remained still throughout, and I ended with this one.

And here it is after post-processing. I’m amazed at how nice the iPhone’s camera is!

I like the way these came out. The colors are interesting and you can see shadow details thanks to the HDR treatment.

Coffee cupping at Press Coffee

Press Coffee, a new cafe in Scottsdale, recently hosted a coffee cupping session. The barista, Tom Maegdlin, did a great job of showing the process from bean to finished product, and we sampled a number of different varieties, noting the characteristics of each of them. We also learned about some interesting coffee hardware.

HDR in Alaska

I caught a bird flying over a lake while shooting three images for this HDR composite. One day I will fix it to show only one bird, but for now it’s still interesting to look at.

HDR in Mexico

At a hotel in Mexico, I tried some night HDR images. These are based on single time exposures.

Belize wedding

This was a beautiful wedding. The couple chose a beautiful villa set in a dramatic location, a place called Ambergris Caye. We did some post-processing, and a few images were monochrome with only certain items in color.
